Festival du Cannes 2013

In a short two weeks, the Cannes Film Festival is going to open with the highly anticipated Baz Luhrmann film The Great Gatsby. I am sure that I speak to a wide audience when I say "Fuck yes! About damn time."  Coming to the US on May 10, Gatsby's trailers, since almost a year ago, has had me more excited than a fat kid on a diet in a candy store.  Luhrmann's style of LSD-induce glitz and glamour matched with the serve polar soundtrack is sure to impress the most skeptic.

Another film that I can't wait for at Cannes is Only God Forgives directed by Nicholas Winding Refn.  Being the huge Refn fan that I am, I have anticipated this since the very first photo from the production was leaked.  His Neo-Noir interpretation is a refreshing contrast to the strictly comedic or dramatic films that have flooded the box office.  Plus, who doesn't love Ryan Gosling?? This disturbed bad boy with the pretty face will send chills down everyones back.

Next is James Franco's As I Lay Dying, you know, the Faulkner classics that we all have a love-hate relationship at the grace of our high school English class.  Very little as been released about this film expect for just one photo being leaked.  But hey, if the fact that Franco is both directing and acting isn't enough for you want to see it, then I suggest for you to go and watch Freaks and Geeks, Howl, and 127 Hours then come back with your new found enlightenment.

Finally, comes Sophia Coppola's Bling Ring based upon the Hollywood sandal of a group of teenagers robbing several celebrities including Paris Hilton and Orlando Bloom in 07.  Utterly disappointed with Emma Watson's role as Sam in my beloved Perks of Being a Wallflower, I was not the most excited to see this... but that was until 1. I heard the trailer (Sleigh Bells- Crown on the Ground) and 2. Found out that Taissa Farmiga was opposite Watson, thus equating to the fact that there is hope in this world.
